The last few weeks have been heaven for automobile racing enthusiast with the Monaco F1 race, Indy 500, Canadian F1 Grand Prix, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans race taking place in 14 days. And speaking of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, I’m sure you’ve seen the footage or heard of the horrific crash suffered by Allan McNish.
If not, we have some pictures and video footage from the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans race crash between Allan McNish’s Audi R18 and the Ferrari 458 Italia. The accident looks pretty devastating but thankfully everyone walked away alive after everything was said and done and we give props to the engineers for making these racing cars very safe. Considering the amount of damage caused, it is shocking to see Allan McNish just walk away from this crash, he was taken to the hospital as a precaution but all his limbs were where they should have been. Hit the jump to see the pictures and video. continue reading →

The Audi R8 is the epitome of sports cars. Some might call it an exotic and some would argue that it’s just a sports car that’s really fast. For those who can’t dish out the money for an Audi R8; can now make their Audi TT resemble a R8.
German car tuner Project Kahn has introduced a new styling kit that resembles the looks of an Audi R8 for the Audi TT. Called the TR8, the Audi TT receives a new body kit that includes front and rear vented bumpers, which resemble the R8 with mesh inserts, a front grille, R8 style side sills and rear spoiler. continue reading →

German car tuning firm MEC Design have just released a tuning package for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The tuning package consists of various upgraded body parts, a new exhaust system, new wheels, suspension and springs, and minor interior upgrades; these parts can be ordered individually.
The MEC Design tuned SLS AMG gets an aggressive front bumper that can be had a few different configurations with one or two piece lip spoilers which are available in optional carbon fiber. The rear bumper is available in USA or European versions and can be equipped with a choice of three diffusers: “Extreme”, “GT3”, or “Formula” – all three diffusers come in optional carbon fiber finish. MEC Design also included a set of sporty side skirts that can be equipped with optional 8-LED lights under them. Again, I think these lights are quite tacky; this is the second tuned supercar in a week that has these optional lights, let’s hope this in not a new trend. Other visual upgrades include a rear trunk and roof-mounted spoiler and a carbon fiber hood-scoop. continue reading →

The Nissan 370Z happens to be one of my favorite sports cars. What makes it my favorite is the fact that it is affordable, is a very handsome car, plenty of power, and has history dating back to 1969 with the Datsun 240Z. Nissan has just launched a special edition of the Z called the 370Z GT Edition which is based on the European model. Unfortunately, the car might not be available in North America from the sounds of it.
The 370Z GT Edition is available in three body colors, Pearl White (my favorite), Kuro Black, and Black Rose. The 370Z also features retro-inspired racing stripes along the rocker panels much like the S30 model from the 1970’s. continue reading →

The Porsche 911 is one of our favorite high-performance cars and we instantly fell in love with the 997 model when it was first introduced. Most of you know the GT2 is an even more extreme version of the 911; it’s basically a race-car for the streets with enough power to put a smile on your face every time you step on the throttle. The Porsche 911 GT2, in stock form, is powered by a 3.6 liter boxer engine that’s placed behind the rear wheels, producing 530 horsepower and 502 pound-feet (680 Nm) of torque. However that was not enough power for tuning company mcchip dkr, they wanted to take the 997 GT2 to another level.
mcchip dkr introduced a tuning kit for the GT2 that consists of upgraded turbochargers, called stage 3/MC650, new high performance intercooler, a 200-cell sports catalyst and manifolds, and an upgraded ECU by Kubatech. The end result is an awesome 657 horsepower and 616 pound-feet (835 Nm) of torque, according to mcchip, the torque could have been increased to 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) but they wanted the car to be driveable in a variety of conditions. continue reading →

Here’s the Wheelsandmore tuned Audi R8 V10 Spyder we referred to yesterday in our Wheelsandmore Aston Martin Vantage post. The tuned Audi R8 V10 Spyder gets the same power upgrades as the Wheelsandmore tuned R8 V10 coupe (we didn’t cover that car). The power upgrade includes a tuned ECU and the addition of a hand-crafted stainless steel exhaust system which upped the power to 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque.
The R8 Spyder gets light-weight 3-piece 6Sporz black wheels with white lip that matches the body paint, wrapped in 245/30/20 front and 295/35/20 rear Continental tires. A new Level-Control-System (LCS) hydraulic suspension is added to the R8 Spyder that allows the car to be raised 40 mm at the touch of a button to avoid scrapping the bottom of the car on those pesky speed bumps. Other minor upgrades include a matte black front grill and black enamel tail pipes. continue reading →
