
Some people might call station wagons mommy-mobiles but they’d be dead wrong for thinking this Edo Competition tuned M5 wagon is just another grocery-getting station wagon. Called the Dark Edition, the tuning package is based on the old BMW M5 Touring (E60).
The BMW M5 Dark Edition looks very sinister and could possibly be the ultimate modern-day sleeper were it not for the M5 badges and those sweet looking wheels. The exterior is all-black with black 20” rims that are wrapped in 255/30 R20 front and 285/30 R20 rear tires. BMW must be really pissed off; the official 2012 BMW M5 F10 pictures have been leaked onto the internet thanks to online car magazines. Although the previous generation M5 was bit soft, the engineers at BMW have stepped it up and gave the new generation M5 F10 a real aggressiveness. Aggressive solid lines go smooth into the body to give it a menacing look. Enlarged air intakes, 20 inch wheels with Z rated tires and 4 tail pipes set it apart from the stock 5 series.
Gone is the V10 to be replaced by a more efficient and higher horsepower twin turbo V8. Power is boosted from 510 hp (V10) to 552 hp and torque is also boosted from 383 pound-feet (519 Nm) to an astonishing 501 lb-ft (679 Nm). Hold on to your panties as this increase in horsepower and torque will rocket you from standstill to 60 miles per hour in a mere 4.4 seconds. The 2011 BMW M5 is to be released in early 2011 and it has been confirmed that the powertrain will get a complete overhaul. The M5’s current V10 engine producing 500 horsepower will be replaced by a tuned 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 that is currently in the X5M (540hp) and we are guessing it will be putting out close to 600 horsepower. The pricing of the 2011 BMW M5 should start in the $87,000 to $90,000 range but the exact numbers will be known once the car is released in the early part of next year.
It’s safe to say that these changes BMW are making to the new M5 model should make drivers very happy. In recent years, the current M5 has been losing market share in that segment to competition such as the Audi RS6 which has a twin-turbo V10, Cadillac CTS-V which has a supercharged V8, and Mercedes E63 AMG which is powered by a V8.
