Fifth-Gear-Mclaren-MP4-12C-vs-Ferrari-458-Italia

As much as I like Top Gear, I have more respect for the opinions of the guys from Fifth Gear; they seem to be more honest about the cars and they actually provide useful information.  This post covers a short test done by the guys from Fifth Gear, comparing the McLaren MP4-12C and the Ferrari 458 Italia (which happens to be one our favorite cars, here at First Supercars).

Racing drivers/hosts Tiff Needell and Jason Plato thrashed the cars around the track, lucky guys.  Tiff’s job was to see which car was more fun and Jason’s job was to see which car is the fastest around the track.  We all know the result of the fun test, it has to be the Ferrari 458 Italia but which car is faster around the track?  Hit the jump to see the video and the results. continue reading →

McLaren-F1-GTR-And-MP4-12C

The all-new McLaren MP4-12C is the second road-going car produced by McLaren; of course the first one was the famous McLaren F1.  Not only does the MP4-12C have big shoes to fill, it has some tough competition from Germany and Italy.  The question, however is, can the MP4-12C beat the old McLaren F1?  That is what AutoCar set out to do in the video below.

The comparison takes place between a MP4-12 and a McLaren F1 GTR, which is a full blown race car that weighs half a ton less than the MP4-12C, it also won the 24 Hours of LeMans race, doesn’t seem too fair.  So who wins the race, at what looks to be the Top Gear track?  Watch the video after the jump to find out. continue reading →

I (along with others) have complained about the conservative styling of the McLaren MP4-12C supercar but I don’t have any complaints about its brother, the MP4-12C GT3 race car.  This looks like a proper supercar with the addition of a few body elements; I can’t wait to see the results once all the major car tuning companies get their hands on some MP4-12C’s.

We first showed you a teaser picture of the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 race car last year, now McLaren have officially unveiled the car; the project is a collaboration between McLaren and CRS Racing.  The MP4-12C GT3 is powered by the same 3.8 liter turbocharged V8 engine that can be found in the street car but is has been tuned to meet racing specifications, McLaren hasn’t provided any details on the power output. continue reading →

WSJ-Test-Drive-McLaren-MP4-12CIt seems everyone is getting a shot at driving the latest supercar from Britain, the McLaren MP4-12C, this time it was Wall Street Journal’s Da Neil enjoying the car; my question to McLaren is, where the hell was our invitation?  Video after the jump. continue reading →

McLaren-MP4-12C-Supercar

February 2, 2011 marked the day that the McLaren MP4-12C officially entered production.  The MP4-12C is the latest car to join the elite class of supercars.  The car will be produced at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England and is set to cost around $230,000 in the U.S.

A little background info on the McLaren MP4-12C, it is propelled by a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine that makes 592 horsepower and 443 pound-feet (600 Nm) of torque, the engine has been developed in-house by McLaren.  The car weighs only 2,866 pound (1,300 kg) thanks to being mostly constructed out of carbon fiber.  According to McLaren, the MP4-12C should be able to do the 0 – 62 mph sprint in under 3.0 seconds and reach 124 mph (200 km/h) in less than 10 seconds with a top speed of over 200 mph (322 km/h). continue reading →

In keeping with their racing tradition, McLaren and CRS Racing have started to develop a race version of the McLaren MP4-12C super car.  It was fifteen years ago when the first McLaren F1 GT3 cars were unveiled at the Le Mans 24 Hour race and they won their class and also took the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th spots.

The new McLaren MP4-12C GT3 will have big shoes to fill if it wants to experience the fame that the F1 experienced over the last decade.  The race car will be available in limited numbers in 2012, however, a number of MP4-12C GT3 prototypes will be entered into select European races for development work in 2011.  We will keep an eye on the development of the 12C GT3 and do expect it to really well if not dominate its class, more information on official specs will be available in 2011.  Video after the jump. continue reading →
